About Burton

Burton serves students grades TK-5

Mission Statement

Student engagement, learning and growth are at the center of all we do.

School Vision

The vision of Burton Elementary is to engage and inspire all children to achieve their full potential. This can be accomplished through a partnership with the Burton families and community to provide the necessary resources and support to create a safe, productive and effective learning environment.

The Burton community truly embodies the Blue Jay Way—leading with Kindness, Respect, and Empathy in every space, and every day.

Burton's History

In 1925, "sister schools" Pattengill and Burton, were constructed and occupied even before completion.

In September of 1931, both Burton and Pattengill were closed for financial reasons as a result of the depression years. The buildings were used for storage and/or leased to parochial schools. Burton reopened in 1941.

Since then, Burton has been providing excellence in education to Berkley Schools students.

Burton had additions added to its original structure as a result of community support:

  • A new media center in 1995
  • A new front office in 2016
  • A new multi-purpose/cafeteria addition in 2025
